The drunken, “thrill-seeking” scion of a wealthy hedge funder left two friends seriously hurt after flipping the family golf cart at full speed in a “dangerous stunt” at their $15 million Southampton estate, the alleged victims claimed in a lawsuit.
Garrett Huff, now 23, had been drinking for hours with pals John Mascali and Heather Dailey at the beach and playing “wine pong” in the basement of his parents’ 10-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot manse when the trio decided to zip to the sand one last time on that August 2024 evening, according to court papers.
But Huff hit the gas without warning and sent the oversized, three-row golf cart “at full speed onto a roundabout where he attempted a dangerous stunt which pushed the vehicle to its tipping point,” Mascali and Daily said in court papers.
“In no more than 10 seconds the golf cart was at full speed,” Mascali told The Post. “The last thing I remember . . . was feeling the golf cart lift up off the ground.”
The vehicle overturned, “violently hurling” Mascali and Dailey to the pavement and knocking them unconscious, according to their Suffolk County Supreme Court lawsuits against Huff and his parents, Craig and Tracey Huff, seeking unspecified damages.
Sag Harbor native Mascali, now 24, suffered spinal fractures and a concussion and woke up to see Dailey with “blood streaming from her skull,” they said in the litigation.
“The only thing I really vividly remember was seeing Heather in a deformed position, with tons of blood leaking out of her head,” Mascali recalled. “I thought she was likely dead. I just remember collapsing on my knees in front of her.”
Mascali and Dailey were rushed to a local hospital.
Dailey, a New Jersey resident, needed five staples to close her head wound and now suffers debilitating migraines. She said she was “terrified” to see Mascali lying still on the ground, thinking he was dead.
Garrett Huff’s father, Craig A. Huff, launched private equity firm Reservoir Capital in 1998. His mother Tracey once bragged to The New York Times about spending $200,000 on a closet. The couple owns an $11 million, 15-room spread at 993 Fifth Ave., the entire sixth floor of a majestic limestone building across the street from the Met.
The accusers said the Huffs knew their son “had a history of engaging in reckless joyrides” with the golf cart, “especially under the influence of alcohol,” and had “previously injured a friend’s hand in a similar stunt.”
The couple ditched the family golf cart after the crash, the lawsuit contends.
“This was not an accident – it was the predictable result of recklessness and a long-ignored pattern of dangerous behavior,” said attorney William A. Brewer III, who reps Mascali and Dailey.
The Huffs did not return messages seeking comment.

Southampton’s pot shop regulations are “unreasonably impracticable” — and flat-out illegal, the State Attorney General’s Office wrote in a recent letter to a federal judge, The Post has learned.
The blistering new letter, obtained by The Post, declared that the tony town has no authority to pile on permits, fees and zoning hurdles, which directly conflict with the state’s cannabis laws, according to AG Letitia James’ office.
The missive was sent Nov. 28 to US District Judge Judge Joanna Seybert, who is overseeing the case between the ritzy coastal town and the defiantly-opened Brown Budda cannabis dispensary.
The town is accused of rigging its local zoning code in an effort to stop pot shops from opening in Southampton, even allegedly trying to stick Brown Budda with a $40,000 bill for a sidewalk it didn’t need, according to sources close to the shop and the AG’s letter.
A portion of the Southampton Town Code, §330-162.26, “is preempted and invalid,” the letter read.
“The New York State Cannabis Control Board has determined the provision makes the operation of licensed retail cannabis dispensaries ‘unreasonably impracticable,’” it added.
That section of the Southampton Town Code slapped already-licensed dispensaries with 17 extra rules — including costly special permits, distance limits, design demands, zoning caps and other hoops no other businesses in the town had to jump through, according to the letter.
The CCB already voided a majority of the town’s rules in October as overly stringent, illegal and designed to intentionally block legal dispensaries from ever opening.
State regulators also struck down the town’s attempts to regulate weed deliveries within its borders, calling any effort to do so “completely outside of municipal authority.”
But that ruling from the CCB didn’t stop the town from claiming that Brown Budda was still responsible for constructing an estimated $40,000 sidewalk in front of its east-end storefront right off the highway.
“[The] town code directly conflicts with and is preempted by both the Cannabis Law and its implementing regulations,” the AG’s office wrote to Seybert about the town’s regulations, including the sidewalk mandate.
“It imposes additional restrictions on retail cannabis dispensaries beyond those imposed by state law and, in doing so, interferes with the State’s implementation and enforcement of uniform statewide rules for cannabis licensing,” the letter states, claiming Southampton has no legal basis to stand in the way of a state-licensed operation.
Brown Budda challenged local officials, refusing to construct the sidewalk and rolling out its operation without town approval on Nov. 12 — getting dragged back into court because of the defiant decision, and prompting the AG’s office to send the new letter to the judge.
Representatives of Brown Budda had long argued the town’s demands were stalling tactics meant to keep the shop out of operation as it bled millions in loses.
State regulators detailed that they signed off on Brown Budda’s location and issued it a full retail license in 2022, meaning Albany determined its site in Southampton met every requirement needed under New York law years ago.
Town attorney Jim Burke didn’t respond to a request for comment
A Brown Buddha rep called the AG’s letter vindicating.
“At least two years were taken away from Brown Buddha,” a spokesperson for the shop said.

NEW YORK — New York residents traveling for Thanksgiving are expected to encounter record crowds on the highway this year as some travelers opted to drive instead of fly to their destinations this year, according to AAA estimates.
In its 2025 Thanksgiving travel forecast, the auto club projects 81.8 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home over the Thanksgiving travel period that starts Tuesday and continues through Monday, Dec. 1.
The domestic travel forecast includes an additional 1.6 million travelers compared to last Thanksgiving, setting a new overall record. Thanksgiving is the single-busiest holiday for travel, compared to others like Memorial Day and July 4.
Most people will be traveling by car. AAA projects 73 million people, or nearly 90 percent of all holiday travelers, will be taking road trips. That’s about 1.3 million more people on the roads than last year, and the number could be higher if some air travelers decide to drive instead of fly due to lingering disruptions at airports from the government shutdown.
Approximately 6 million people, 2 percent fewer than last year, are planning to fly. New York residents who have booked Thanksgiving air travel should check for delays and cancellations with a tracking service such as FlightAware before leaving for the airport.
While flight reductions at high-traffic airports have been lifted with the reopening of the government, travelers may experience some lingering travel disruptions, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has said.
New York residents who are driving somewhere for Thanksgiving should anticipate heavy traffic on both Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the transportation data company INRIX. Travelers returning home on Sunday should expect heavy traffic most of the day.
If possible, New York residents should avoid heading from Manhattan to the Hamptons on the Long Island Expressway on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., a trip projected to take 4 hours and 8 minutes — a 163 percent increase over normal travel times.

Travel delays should be expected in the top 10 Thanksgiving destinations, AAA said. They are Orlando, Florida; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Miami; Anaheim/Los Angeles; Tampa, Florida; New York City; San Francisco; Honolulu; Las Vegas; and Atlanta.
